How to get a public defender
After arrest, you will either be held in jail until a court date, or you will be released with a notice to appear for a court date. At this court date, you will need to tell the judge that you would like a public defender. You will then most likely need to provide the public defender’s office with proof of your financial situation, so they can best assist you. How to act during a pullover
Pull over in a safe area, out of the flow of traffic.
Don’t get out unless the officer asks you too
Keep your hands visible. If you have to reach for something to give the officer, make sure the officer can see what you are doing.
Answer the officer’s questions honestly and completely. The more cooperation you give them the more they will help you.
Police are trained to defend themselves first - if you make them feel threatened, they are going to defend themselves.
